Even having a relatively powerful gaming pc at my desk, gaming in the living room still feels much better and more comfortable, just like the good old days. In this article, I will show the setup process for Steam and things to note.
Step 1: Open terminal and type in the command below
sudo dnf install steam
#type in admin passowrd
#type "y" to confirm installation
Step 2: Launch and Login to Steam
Step 3: Go to setting then compatibility, and select the newest proton
Step 4: Enjoy
1. No anti-cheat games
Most of the games that require anti-cheat probably won’t work on Linux, as most anti-cheats need kernal level access, which don’t play nice with Linux. Most of the time is up to the developer whether or not they will support Linux.
2. Putting games in other drive on Steam
Make sure the drive is formatted in ext4 format, but Btrfs format. Otherwise, no matter how hard you try, you can’t add to steam. I don’t really know the reason behind it, but it is what it is.
3. Performance penalty in direct 12 games with Nvidia GPU
Unless you need CUDA. It is much better to use an AMD GPU than a Nvidia GPU. But for the most part, it doesn’t really matter which brand of GPU you use anyway. Moreover, if you are too lazy to install the Nvidia driver in Linux, you can pick a distro that has the driver pre-installed.
